Day 1(L,D) MELBOURNE, SWAN HILL
Departing Melbourne, we travel north to Echuca, arriving in time for lunch. We continue along the Murray Valley Highway to Cohuna before arriving in Swan Hill and our home for tonight, the Comfort Inn Campbell.
Day 2 (B,L,D) SWAN HILL, BERRI
Travel via Pinnaroo to Loxton, visit the Loxton Historical Village. We continue to Berri and visit “Berri Direct” where we sample local produce. View Fletcher Freighters 60 metre mural. Home tonight, the Berri Resort Hotel (May 19 departure stays at Renmark).
Day 3 (B,D) BERRI, CLARE
From Berri we travel to Morgan, an historic river town, and Burra, once a major copper mining area and now carrying National Trust classification. Enjoy a guided town and district tour at Burra before continuing to Clare and our home tonight, the Clare Valley Motel.
Day 4 (B,D) CLARE, HAWKER, WILPENA
This morning we travel to Peterborough and Hawker. View the Wilpena Panorama, a 30 metre circular painting depicting the Flinders Ranges. On to our home for three nights, the Wilpena Pound Resort at Wilpena.
Day 5 (B,L,D) WILPENA, CAZNEAUX TREE, SACRED CANYON
A relaxing day as we explore this fascinating area. Walk into Wilpena Pound (climb to the rim if you wish), enjoy a picnic lunch. Visit the famous Cazneaux Tree and, subject to road conditions, visit the beautiful Sacred Canyon, view aboriginal rock paintings, Yanyanna Hut and Bunyeroo Lookout.
Day 6 (B,L,D) BLINMAN
Today we visit Stokes Lookout and the Great Wall of China on route to historic Blinman, once a copper mining area. Time for a refreshment (own expense) then return to Wilpena Pound Resort with the sun setting on the nearby Ranges.
Day 7 (B,L,D) WILPENA, QUORN, PORT AUGUSTA
This morning we visit the ruin of Kanyaka Station and the old Quorn Railway Station,an elegant stone and brick structure built in 1916. We continue to Port Augusta to visit the Wadlata Outback Centre, an award-winning “tunnel in time” depicting early development of the area including the original Ghan. Following a light lunch we visit the Australian Arid Lands Botanic Garden and Flinders Redbank Lookout. Overnight at the Standpipe Motor Inn.
Day 8 (B,D) PORT AUGUSTA, ADELAIDE, MANNUM
This morning we journey to Adelaide via Snowtown and Port Wakefield. We tour the City of Adelaide with its many beautiful buildings and gardens and later continue to the picturesque town of Mannum on the Murray. Home tonight is the Mannum Motel (May 19 departure stays at the Hahndorf Motor Inn).
Day 9 (B,D) MANNUM, KEITH, BORDERTOWN, HORSHAM, STAWELL
Departing Mannum we travel to Tailem Bend and join the Dukes Highway which takes us to Keith and Bordertown with its rare colony of white kangaroos. In the afternoon we travel through Kaniva, Nhill and Horsham. Our overnight home is the Magdala Lodge, Stawell.
Day 10 (B,L) STAWELL, BALLARAT, MELBOURNE
We visit the Stawell Gift Hall of Fame before travelling to Ballarat for lunch. We return to Melbourne via Melbourne Airport arriving at Southern Cross Station coach terminal around 4:00 p.m. and then on to Forest Hill, completing a most enjoyable Flinders Ranges holiday.
