Please note: The cave in which the Opera Scholars perform is accessible only by an open staircase (20 -30 steps). Unfortunately it is not suitable for passengers using walkers or for those who cannot climb stairs.
Day 1 (D)MELBOURNE, GEELONG, APOLLO BAY, WARRNAMBOOL
Departing Melbourne we travel to Geelong and then join the Great Ocean Road for a spectacular journey along Victoria’s southern coast. Lunch at Apollo Bay (own expense). On to the Twelve Apostles, Loch Ard Gorge and Warrnambool. Home tonight, Country Comfort Warrnambool.
Day 2 (B,L,D)WARRNAMBOOL, PORT FAIRY, PORTLAND, MT GAMBIER
A leisurely journey to Port Fairy with its many National Trust buildings and the deep sea port of Portland, where woodchips and live sheep exports depart for overseas. During the afternoon we continue to Nelson and Mt Gambier. Home for three nights is the Mt Gambier International Motel (or similar).
Day 3 (B,L,D)MILLICENT, BEACHPORT, ROBE
Today we explore South Australia’s beautiful Limestone Coast, visiting the award-winning Millicent Museum and the seaside town of Beachport and the fishing port of Robe.
Day 4 (B,L,D)PENOLA, NARACOORTE, OPERA IN THE CAVES
The highlight of our trip today. We visit Yallum Park at Penola, one of the best preserved Victorian mansions in Australia. During the afternoon an opportunity to explore the stunning Naracoorte Caves, with afternoon tea prior to our late afternoon “Opera in the Caves” concert. Superb entertainment. A later dinner at our motel completes the day.
Day 5 (B,L)MT GAMBIER, HAMILTON, HALLS GAP, MELBOURNE
Departing from Mt Gambier we travel to Hamilton, Dunkeld and Halls Gap in the Grampians. During the afternoon we return to Melbourne, having completed a most enjoyable short break holiday including “Opera in the Caves”.
